About Le Sud

Le Sud is a French-Mediterranean restaurant in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood, inspired by the warmth, flavors, and seasonal rhythms of the South of France. Since opening in 2018, we’ve welcomed neighbors and guests from across the city to gather over simple, vibrant food and genuine hospitality. Le Sud has been recognized among top French and Mediterranean restaurants in Chicago and continues to be a neighborhood favorite in Roscoe Village.

Our Story

Owner Sandy Chen’s culinary journey began in France, where she discovered a world of bright, rustic flavors and a deep appreciation for seasonal cooking. Time spent in the countryside of Provence sparked memories of her hometown along China’s southeastern coast — a place also shaped by fresh seafood, local markets, and recipes passed down through generations.

Though separated by geography, both regions share a common philosophy: cook with what is fresh, keep flavors honest, and let ingredients speak for themselves. That shared spirit became the foundation for Le Sud — meaning “The South” in French — and the guiding influence behind our kitchen today.

Inspired by the South of France

At Le Sud, our cuisine reflects the coastal traditions of Southern France and the broader Mediterranean. We focus on clean flavors and seasonal ingredients rather than heavy sauces or overly complicated preparations.

Our menu celebrates:

  • Fresh seafood

  • Quality olive oil

  • Seasonal vegetables and herbs

  • Wood-grilled meats

  • Bright citrus and Mediterranean spices

The cold is here to stay in Chicago, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to head indoors. Midwesterners are always made of sterner stuff and have a tolerance for low temperatures. Many of the fire pits and propane heaters that were en vogue in 2020 have become fixtures all over town, as have insulated tents that protect patio diners from bitter winter winds.
